Long-distance move from Hopkinton, MA to Winston Salem, NC

Schneider Moving and Storage.

COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT! Please do not put yourself through this! On moving day, the movers arrived 5 hours later than expected. After loading the truck, we were told we had underestimated the amount of furniture to be loaded and they would have to come back the next morning with another truck to finish. To do that, we had to pay $1,500 more than originally told so they could hire people to unload this truck to storage and use it to return the next day. Two days later, they still had not returned. They would not answer our phone calls, texts, or emails. On the third day we contacted another mover to complete the move because our apartment had been re-rented and we had to vacate. Still no action or response from Schneider. We moved, and when Schneider finally returned a call, we were told that we would have to pay more to get our furniture. They would not tell us where our furniture was stored. After weeks of deliberation about cost, they finally agreed to deliver our furniture. Again, five hours later than we were told, our movers arrived in a truck that had a 1-foot by 5-foot hole in the roof, and a tail gate that would only lower half way. Our furniture was not wrapped in blankets even though there were at least 50 blankets stacked in the corner of the truck. The leg of an 18th century lowboy chest was broken off, the leg of a 19th century writing desk was broken off, an 18th century chest was severely scratched, and, conservatively speaking, at least 85% of our remaining furniture was damaged, some severely. On top of that, had my husband not helped unload, the movers would have been at the storage unit until 1:00 a.m. We are currently trying to get Schneider to respond regarding the damages, but they have not communicated in any way. We have also contacted the DOT, but we’ve had no response from them as well. Believe me, this is a short version of what we went through with Schneider. I’m writing this to prevent you the pain and frustration we went through.

Long-distance move from Bethlehem, PA to Jackson, WY

This company will weight bump you.

I booked this company when another bailed out on me. I regret this decision. They originally quoted me an estimate of $7867.65 to move 1180 cubic feet from PA to WY. I had to be on a plane so a friend (who did not know everything to be wary of) was there to let them in. The movers did not make an itemized inventory. After loading everything they called me and said my stuff took up 2050 cubic feet and it would be $14,734 total which I ended up paying so that I could get my stuff. It took them a month to deliver my things because after they had my stuff they suddenly came up with a charge for $1500 for "expedited shipping" or else it would take 14-20 business days to deliver. I refused to pay even more money so they held my stuff in a warehouse for nearly a month before driving to my destination in 2 days (according to the guys that actually delivered my stuff).

When they finally delivered my things, multiple boxes and several pieces of furniture were missing which the delivery foreman specifically remembered being in the warehouse when he loaded and said they weren't stickered appropriately so he didn't know to bring them. In the delivery truck my stuff only took up 734.54 cubic feet, which I took pictures of and measured. This is less than the non-binding estimate they originally provided, which means the pickup foreman lied about how much stuff I had just so that they could get more money from me.

Now the company screens my calls and will not return messages. Kirk, the only one who ever answered the phone, is very rude and condescending, and will hang up on you.

In summary, this company will weight bump you, hold your goods hostage, lose your things, and treat you very poorly.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Nashua, NH

A Dishonest and Sloppy Organization.

This organization gave me a moving estimate in the amount of $950 with a drop off date 7 days after the pick up. On the pick up day, only after they loaded my posessions onto their truck, they decided it was appropriate to aribtrarily increase the amount of my charges to $1550--more than 50% off! What's the point of giving an estimate? For that price tag, I could have had same day delivery from another company. Seeing as how my things were already loaded onto the truck and it would be impossible to find another company with that short notice, I had to sign.

The invoice is a mostly blank form with no explanation of the charges. They only offer a vague explanation about cubic feet, which is absurd because they didn't measure anything. My contacts within the organization then completely vanished. Before I gave my credit card info, they were readily accessable by phone; subsequent to giving my credit card info all my calls go to voicemail, and the messages are never returned. Whenever I did reach anyone, the response was always "we'll resolve this and have someone call you back," only to NEVER be called back.

By the way, estimated delivery date was July 5. On the evening of July 5, a driver contacted us to let us know he would be by the following morning at 7am for the drop off. On July 6, I called their dispatch to find out from them where things were. The dispatcher said things would be delivered the following day July 7. On July 7, this was then revised to July 8 at 7 am. That 7 am delivery finally arrived July 8 in the afternoon. Why does this company need to lie so much?

Adding insult to injury, we just unpacked a glass tabletop which they completely SHATTERED, despite being carefully padded and packaged. Because my calls only go to voicemail, (I strongly suspect the organization is screening my phone calls), I have not been able to communicate this issue t them.

Long-distance move from Maplewood, NJ to Tamarack, MN

Poor Service.

I am so annoyed with the service that I received that I will also making a complaint to the Department of Transportation and the Better Business Bureau.

On Monday, July 31st, Schneider came to my house in New Jersey to pick up my stuff. When they came, I had more boxes than previously communicated. I called earlier in the morning and spoke with some rude person by the name of David who told me that the truck was running late and that it would be there at 12 noon. Although I had to be at work, I had no issue with that. When they came, the gentleman said the price was now $4620 instead of $1953 as estimated. I had no issue in paying as I realized that I had more stuff and understood the moving business as I worked as a relocation specialist before.

First thing, I was supposed to pay 50% of the cost, I was advised I need to pay $3000.00 which I had no problem paying. Due to the fact the truck could not hold. my queen size box spring, full size mattress and box spring had to be tied to the back that got wet in the rain during the trip to Florida. My brand new leather sofa has scuffed marks all over, my daughters bed cannot be put back together because the metal hooks that were removed by the men on Monday were not secured to the bed frame and cannot be found.

My vacuum, suitcase and rug runner were left behind in New Jersey because there was no space. I called Tuesday and spoke with David who advised that someone would be coming out to get the things left behind, to no avail no one showed up. When I called back, he was very rude and said they would not be picked up. I told him that my lease was up and I really needed someone to pick up the stuff. I ended up having to leave these stuff with the Landlord hoping someone will pick them up.

I am appalled at the service provided to me and will never recommend this company to not even a dog. Obviously customer service is not paramount in your company and I find this very offensive and distasteful. I am seeking compensation for my box spring and mattress and for the distress caused by your company. I have not slept in my bed since I have moved to Florida. I would anyone not to use this company.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to Texas

Horrible, Unprofessional Experience.

This company is a sham. Do not under any circumstances book with them.

After I booked my move a full month in advance, the organization less than 24 hours beforehand and asked to postpone the move by a day. When I told them this was not possible, they acquiesced, but then insisted that they come at 2 pm instead of 10 am, as was originally planned. The fact that I live in a high rise, in which I have to reserve an elevator well ahead of time, did not concern them.

Over the course of the next evening and morning, my various attempts to correspond further with the company were rebuffed: my calls were screened and my emails ignored. I then received a call 3 hours before the move, when I was told that--conveniently--one of the moving trucks had broken down, and the company would not be able to move my belongings on the day we had planned.

Do not be fooled by anyone you speak to in the main offices. They have a nice enough demeanor, but the man who spoke to me on the phone was worse than rude. He was condescending, brusque, and hung up on me repeatedly. He refused to apologize for the inconvenience he was causing, but at this point, customer service was clearly not a concern of his. When I told him that the elevator in my building would not be available on the day he requested until 5 pm, his response was indignant: "Are you serious?" I was then treated to a lecture on his professional needs, with no concern for mine.

I tried calling the main office several times after this point, but to no avail. They knew I was calling, and they refused to answer any of my calls. By 4:00 pm, I had had enough, and I canceled on them. I had spent hours running back and forth between my apartment, my apartment manager's office, and other moving companies.

If you book with Schneider Moving and Storage, you will do the same.

Local move from Greenwich, CT to East Lyme, CT

The Worst.

Our move was supposed to happen Friday July 14. The movers did not come in the 8am-10am time frame they identified. They finally arrived around 2pm. In the interim I had tremendous difficulty reaching dispatch or anyone in the office. They ran so late that they decided they could not drive to NH (we subsequently found out the NH pick-up following ours postponed, hence they had no reason to drive to NH.) After loading the truck they unloaded and left everything in the garage. We were rescheduled for July 25. Outrageous delay. After loading on July 25 they claimed I owed DOUBLE the estimate when there were actually fewer items being moved than what was loaded on the truck July 14, as I moved some suitcases and boxes myself. Nothing was mentioned on the 14th about an overage or an additional cost. Subsequent to July 14 I had email confirmation the $990.01 price would hold. I refused to pay double.

The driver then called the office and I asked that the office call me. I spoke with Joe and he tried to tell me that the estimate was just that and that my volume was higher. I asked how that was possible with fewer items than 10 days before and no additional cost was mentioned then. Joe checked back twice with his manager, he said, and I negotiated the additional cost down to $200. I would have been willing to have him take items off the truck rather than paying extra but he then told me it would cost $105 an hour for the 2 men to unload. I felt caught in a scheme and the only way out was to agree to pay extra.

I read Joe the contract language and noted that I had nothing extra beyond what was in the estimate and subsequently approved. He kept talking about cubic feet and volume, not items. The salesperson never mentioned anything other than items. This really feels like a bait and switch especially because the extra cost was only mentioned AFTER the truck was loaded.

The drivers schedule was ridiculous and not at all what was promised. They drove from CT to Boston and then to NH. Boston was not on the way and their job there ran until 4:30pm. The driver promised to call me Wed am with a delivery time but did not give me that time until they finished in Boston. They finally arrived in Vermont at 8:45pm Wednesday evening, not finishing the move until close to midnight. That schedule was almost inhumane for the drivers. I tipped them generously as I felt so sorry for them. I do not think it safe to have men working from 6am to midnight.

On the day of the actual move no one would answer the phone at the offices of Schneider, neither my salesperson nor dispatch.

There were a few minor damaged items - a braided rug with torn stitching, bent brass standing lamp, broken planter at the NH drop off - truck hit it - and broken wooden drawer pull on a dresser. Schneider has not responded to my email concerning the damages or the over charge.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Virginia

Recent move from NJ to MD.

I had signed a contract with Schneider Moving and Storage this summer..to pack, store and move all my personal belongings from NJ to MD. The contract was for packing, safe storage and delivery of all my personal possessions. It was also for unpacking and assembly of all my belongings. When my belongings were delivered to my new location in Baltimore, several items were damaged and/ or broken. I am also missing a couple of items. The belongings were not unpacked or assembled as agreed on the contract.

I did call them and talked to Emily at Schneider Storage and Moving. She asked that I send them pictures of items damaged/ broken and I did. A couple of days later I did send them a series of pictures and followed up, Emily told me to call back the next morning. Since then I have called them several times each day over the last two weeks and they do not pick up my phone calls. I have also left a couple of voice mail messages and no one has returned my calls.

I will also note that the delivery was shabbily managed. I was told to expect the delivery to be made between 3 and 5 pm. I did not get a call all day and then called back several times between 3 and 5 pm. I finally reached them at 7:00 pm and was told they could come around 8:00 pm. They finally did at 8:30 pm. Just two guys to unload and unpack. It was 11:30 pm and the two guys were tired and frustrated after a long day..they handled my stuff shabbily..did not unpack and assembled the beds and TV as agreed..and yes, their frustrations resulted in several of my belongings being damaged.

I also notice that their invoice is a generic one and not on company stationery..they do not have an order number and do not provide proper receipts for money collected. They were very prompt in collecting 70% of the money when they picked up and wanted the remaining 30% in a cashier's check even before they unloaded the truck.

My estimate on the front end was considerably lower than what I paid..their charges are vague and when asked, they gave me an explanation on the charges being based on how much of the truck gets filled up.

Please be warned that these folks are good at getting your business and money and then bad and keeping their end of their contract. I have paid them over $4600.00 and am left with an expensive dining room set that is damaged, several items missing and several other items damaged or broken.
